all-or-nothing mindset

Improving your health and fitness doesn’t have to mean going to extremes. Need to reverse your all-or-nothing mindset?

Fit Mother Lisa, a busy professional who’s also a wife, mother, and grandmother, dealt with an unhealthy relationship with food and an all-or-nothing mindset that trapped her for years.

It’s happened to all of us — you get busy and eat something you shouldn’t, so you just say, screw it, I'm off my plan.

Well, Lisa was trapped in that cycle for years because, as a very productive, Type A person, she always had that all-or-nothing mindset.

Lisa learned that it's not about perfection; it's about progress and making good choices in the right direction every day.

Another cool thing about Lisa’s story is that she is a vegan and was able to quickly adapt the Fit Mother meal plan to her vegan lifestyle.

And she has lost over 30 pounds!

Listen to Lisa's Story on the Fit Mother Project Podcast:

Mental Blocks and Unhealthy Habits

A Type A personality, Lisa has always been a super productive person who strives for perfection in everything she does.

So when she started gaining weight 10 years ago, she sprung into action.

She tried several different diets and even enlisted the help of friends, but nothing worked or was ever sustainable.

Then, her friend’s husband, who is on the Fit Father Project, gifted her the Fit Mother Project.

Initially, Lisa tried to power through and fast-track her results.

“While reading about the components of the program, I almost skipped several pages. I was just mindlessly skimming through. I was too interested in getting to the end. Plus, I’m a vegan, so I was putting too many barriers for myself.”

This is when Lisa really started seeing her all-or-nothing mindset, and how not acknowledging the process was holding her back.

But, pointing to her busy work schedule, she said that she would get too tired to work out and keep up with the program, and she was about to give up.

However, after a health episode left her bedridden, she began listening to the Fit Mother Project Podcast and found renewed motivation.

“I decided to re-read everything about the program from day one and watched all the podcasts. And then I found that everything kind of fell into place for me. I realized I was resistant to change and was creating those barriers by blaming the program. But now I stopped overthinking.”

See how Lisa lost her all-or-nothing mindset and built a healthy relationship with food!

Changing Her All-Or-Nothing Mindset

With her newfound epiphany, Lisa dove deep into the program, and the positive changes began.

She synced the program’s workouts with her busy work schedule, worked her vegan and plant-based ideals into the Fit Mother Project meal plan, and consumed supplements.

“There’s something powerful about choosing your nutrition plan like this is yours, and you deeply care about it, which means you’re a lot more adherent.”

Lisa also made remarkable mental shifts.

“I am better today than I was yesterday. I’m not coming down so hard on myself when I don’t do something because I’m only responsible for myself. So if I’m happy about it, it doesn’t matter if everybody else is, and I’m happy now. I understand that the program is as good as you make it. You’ve given us all the tools. I just need to learn to implement it into my world.”

Lisa also found accountability, motivation, and camaraderie in the Fit Mother Project Facebook group.

“I don’t know how I could do it without the women in the group. I love everyone there. That group is everything. You can go on there, and you can hear other people’s cries. I just want to shout out to all the women in the Sisterhood group.”

Now, Lisa is down over 30 pounds, has shed her all-or-nothing mindset, and built life-long healthy habits!

So what would Lisa say to someone looking to join the Fit Mother Project?

“In the beginning, I was just overwhelmed by everything because I was too busy trying to get to the end. I was too busy trying to get to day one of working out. I didn’t want to read all the stories. I started working out. I was still stuck in that old attitude, you know, go to the gym and work out 80 hours a day and eat whatever you want. Now I understand that the program is as good as you make it. The Fit Mother Project program has given us all the tools we need. We just need to change our mindset and learn to implement the available tools into our world.”

3 Key Takeaways From Lisa's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Lisa’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: Avoid the All-or-Nothing Mindset

Before joining the Fit Mother Project, Lisa had an all-or-nothing mindset that blocked her from achieving her health and fitness goals.

But making progress and getting healthy isn't an all-or-nothing process.

There will be failures and bumps in the road.

When it happens, get back on track the next day; don't completely give up!

Try to get a little better each day, and don't let setbacks derail you.

Small wins are still wins!

Lesson 2: Listen to Your Body

Lisa decided to emphasize the program's nutrition component more than the workouts, and it worked for her.

You do you!

Understand what works for your body type and go with it.

True fitness requires you to be aware of your body’s limits and work around them.

Overworking yourself in the gym or following unrealistic diet expectations is going to demotivate you, or, worse, cause physical harm.

Be sensitive to your body and listen to what it says.

Lesson 3: Your Habits Can Change Your Life

Your habits, good and bad, impact your life in many different ways.

They have the potential to make or break your health.

If you have an unhealthy relationship with food, an improper sleep cycle, etc., you are more likely to suffer from problems like obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, and so on.

Conversely, when you eat right, stay active, and sleep better, you will be more set up for a healthier tomorrow.
