changing your mindset

Changing your mindset isn’t always easy. We can all get set in our ways. But, it can be done!

It’s all about getting into the right weight loss mindset and finding the right plan that works specifically for YOU!

Take Fit Mother Jacqueline, for example.

She's a busy 42-year-old woman with her own veterinary practice, a farm she runs with her family, a rental business on the side, two kids, a foreign exchange student, and a husband.

A busy, hectic life, to say the least!

She was also dealing with a knee injury that kept her from doing much, if any, exercise.

And she still found a way to lose 100 lbs!

Her story is truly inspiring.

Listen to Jacqueline's Story on the Fit Mother Project Podcast:

Prediabetes, Weight Gain, and a Series of Injuries

In December 2020, when Jacqueline visited her doctor, she was diagnosed with prediabetes.

Her glucose levels were high, as well.

Before that, in the summer of 2020, she tested positive for COVID-19, and it took her almost 23 days to test negative.

During that period, she lost 20 pounds; however, it was not enough.

“I lost 20 pounds then, but in December, I had gone to the doctor, and I weighed 265.4 pounds. I was disgusted with that. My daughter had asked if we could do a Rudolph Run. And I was like, I'm so fat, I can't do this. I cannot run three miles with my child. Like there's no way. I was even worried about walking it because I had been experiencing some numbness in my feet. So I didn't have great balance.”

Sometimes, while taking her horses out to the field, she would slip and fall.

However, one day, she slipped and injured her left knee.

“So I just hit a low and said I can't live like this anymore.”

During the same period, her husband had gained weight too.

He had come across the Fit Father Project in the past but never signed up.

“I just felt like I was at a point in my life where I couldn't wait any longer and was getting older. I just felt like that was the time. It was the best time. I didn't want to wait any longer. My husband and I decided that we were going to join the Fit Father and Fit Mother Projects on January 1, 2021.”

Every year in January, Jacqueline hosted university interns in her home for an entire month.

They went to work with her every day and used to do everything to assess if veterinary medicine was something they wanted to do.

Therefore, she waited until she settled them and started the Fit Mother Project program on January 7, 2021.

“That was my start date. I just said I'm going to commit to this and see what happens in the first 30 days. And then we'll see what happens from there.”

She lost 30 pounds in the first month.

“I was like, all right, this is working for me. I need to continue.”

Hear how Jacqueline went about changing her mindset.

Changing Your Mindset

During the first 30 days at of the Fit Mother Project, Jacqueline enjoyed her workouts.

“I think I was two weeks in, and I was like, I'm going to do the lifetime thing. I'm just going to join and do this. The workouts were great. I liked weightlifting. It was something I had never done in my life before. I was working out even with an injured knee.”

However, in February 2021, Jacqueline fell and hurt her knee yet again.

“I was doing all the workouts and even running, but the doctor recommended that I don't run anymore. So I started walking.”

Despite a knee injury, she lost over 85 pounds.

Jacqueline also suffered from gastrointestinal issues, which she believed resulted from the consumption of dairy and processed foods.

“I had terrible, almost IBD-like symptoms. For days together, I wouldn't poop at all and had awful constipation. And then there were days when I visited the bathroom multiple times. I had attributed these problems to some processed foods and even dairy. I was already avoiding dairy and some of the processed foods beforehand, and it helped a lot.”

After joining the Fit Mother Project, she started eating per the program's meal plans. She even stopped consuming sugary drinks.

“I sometimes just ate a chocolate bar and soda for lunch. What I found out during all of this was that, for me, soda was a huge trigger. The soda was a huge trigger; whether it was diet or regular, it didn't matter.”

However, it was not easy for Jacqueline to prevent her cravings for sugar.

So, she had to overcome it to achieve her fitness goals.

One day, while she was on a trip with her friends, she consumed soda instead of the hotel water, which did not taste good.

However, it turned out to be a big mistake as it took her ten days to stop craving sugars after that incident.

“One morning, I was craving pancakes. I don't even really like pancakes, but my child was ordering pancakes. In my mind, I knew it was wrong, and I just said, no, I'm not doing it. I realized at that moment that it was the soda that had changed my cravings. So, I decided to order an omelet. I did, and I felt full and happy. Every time I craved something, I just made a better decision.”

After losing 40 pounds, the journey to the 50-pound weight loss was more challenging.

She fell while carrying two 50-pound gas cans on both shoulders during an ice storm in West Virginia.

“I slipped on some ice. My knee went one way, and I went the other. I tore my collateral ligaments and had a meniscal tear. Moreover, the doctor informed me that they don't fix collateral ligaments. He recommended I stay off the exercise regime for a few weeks. He advised me not to do the upper body exercises also.”

Jacqueline was in a brace for eight weeks. Nevertheless, she followed her fitness plan as much as she could.

Her primary aim now was to eat clean.

“I wanted to go that route where all the vegetables we were eating were going to be homegrown or brought from the farmer's market. Moreover, when I started eating clean, I had zero gastrointestinal symptoms. I was allowed to walk with my brace, so I was still walking. I had a lot of animals to take care of.”

Jacqueline has not only lost weight with the Fit Mother Project but also gained back her energy and zest.

She attributes her fitness achievements to eating clean, exercising regularly, taking supplements, and staying focused throughout.

Recently, during Halloween, she visited a small country farm with her family to enjoy some rides and fun events.

She was more energetic than ever.

“They have this big bounce thing that's almost like a trampoline. I took off my shoes, and my son was like, what are you doing, mommy? Are you going to jump with us? You can do that. And I was like, yeah, I can do that. I went out and jumped, and we jumped for probably an hour.”

After losing 85 pounds, Jacqueline had a lot of loose skin around her belly.

Therefore, she started getting skin infections.

She found it difficult to live with the flab hanging around her belly.

Consequently, she was referred to a plastic surgeon to get the hanging skin removed.

“They pulled off 10 pounds of skin. So, in all, I lost almost 100 pounds. 85 pounds plus the 10-pound skin removed during the surgery.”

Jacqueline felt more confident about her body and looks after the weight loss and surgery.

So, what would Jacqueline say to someone looking to join the Fit Mother Project?

“You have to commit your mind to do this wholly. You have to say that this is what I'm going to do, and you have to commit your mind fully. Just start and do as much as you can for as long as you can. Push yourself to do a little more. Every time you do, you will get better.”

2 Key Takeaways From Jacqueline's Journey

To summarize, here are two key lessons you can learn from Jacqueline’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: Never Say Never

The secret to achieving your goals is determination and the resolve to continue your journey no matter what and how many obstacles you encounter.

Jacqueline is an excellent example.

She faced multiple injuries during her journey with the Fit Mother Project; however, she did not give up.

Instead, she kept going until she completed her fitness mission.

Lesson 2: Eating Clean Can Give Great Results

As you probably already know, nutrition plays a significant role in getting healthy and fit.

Therefore, you must focus on proper nutrition along with a regular exercise regime.

For example, Jacqueline ultimately gave up on sugars and started eating clean.

She even went to the extent of eating only homegrown or organic vegetables.
