Need to replace your bad habits with healthy habits? You can make lifestyle changes and get past temporary diets and quick fixes. 

That’s what Fit Mother Christina did! 

Christina not only lost over 60 pounds, but she also got herself out of her sugar addiction and a depressive funk. 

With the help of the Fit Mother Project, Christina has developed incredible healthy habits that will keep her physically and mentally fit into her 60s, 70s, and beyond. 

More than that, she got her confidence and mojo back! 

She really put in the work, and her story is particularly powerful because she overcame her mind and emotions and pulled herself out of a deep rut.

Sugar Addiction and Poor Coping Mechanisms

Christina was in a miserable position in her life healthwise. 

“I was very overweight, completely out of shape. I was very depressed and couldn't do any of the things that I wanted to do. I could barely go for a walk and struggled to sleep.”

She found herself in an unhealthy loop with bad coping mechanisms. 

“I was in a really bad place for some reason, and I was using food only to comfort myself and soothe what I was feeling inside.”

To make matters worse, she was always looking at her scale.

“I've always had a really negative relationship with the scale. I used to weigh myself several times a day.”

Christina was getting bad news everywhere she turned, and it kept bringing her down.

“I use a particular weight app that gives you all your stats, like the type of fat, your bone density, fat percent, etc. Their green indication suggested good health and weight, but mine was red or orange through all the parameters. I was obese and weighed 248 pounds.”

And her problems didn't end there. 

“I was exhausted, lethargic, and couch surfing. I did not have the energy or even the desire to do any of the stuff that I knew I was supposed to be doing.”

Christina was also addicted to sugar; at any low point, she turned to sweets. 

She knew she needed help, and that's when she found the Fit Mother Project.

Creating Healthy Habits

Christina reveals two of her major takeaways from the Fit Mother Project. 

“One, the mission statement that you have us do is everything. It reminds us why we're making a certain choice. Another thing that you taught me is to break that all-or-nothing mindset which helped me understand that if I ate something that I shouldn't have once doesn't mean my whole day or lifestyle is blown.”

She also now knows that going to the gym is not the be-all, end-all of fitness.

“I don't have to go and be in the gym for three hours a day. It's nonsense. I don't need that, especially at 52.”

Christina also loved the support she got from the FMP Facebook group.

“I got so much support, knowledge, and wisdom from this group. I could post ridiculous pictures of myself that I didn't even want to take. But they're all cheering you on.”

After getting on board with the Fit Mother Project, the first thing Christina did was clear her house of all the sweets. 

It was not easy for her, and she still had cravings, but she decided to go cold turkey because she wanted to break the sugar addiction pattern.

She admitted to having loved the free meal aspect of the program.

“You allow a lot more free meals than I even participate in, and it is almost a comfort to me, knowing that I can sometimes choose to eat whatever I want.”

As a substitute for her former coping mechanisms of sugar consumption, Christina now goes around her neighborhood for a walk whenever she is facing a tough time. 

She touches upon the changes she made through her FMP journey.

“My self-talk changed from negative to positive. I made a conscious choice to change what was coming into my ears. On my morning walks, I listen to positive, motivational, inspirational, and uplifting podcasts.”

Christina has gotten healthier, and her life has never been better.

“I lost over 60 pounds. I'm so much healthier and more productive. I feel so good and different and wear smaller clothes.”

So what would Christina say to someone looking to join the Fit Mother Project?

“It’s not uncommon for people to use food to soothe themselves. We all have our own vices, and it might be too much social media, TV, food, or drugs and alcohol. It’s natural for the human body and brain to want to ease the pain. But there are more healthy ways to soothe and to help that. Eat healthy food, take a walk and breathe and get some sun. It’s so cool because it’s not a fitness program. It’s just healthy living.”

Lesson 1: The Scale Doesn't Tell the Whole Story

Overthinking or fixating on a number on a scale is never good.

Your weight alone does not define your health.

Many people give up on their health after a certain age, thinking that poor health is the inevitable result of aging.

Christina had tried many fad diets and quick fixes to no avail.

She came to realize that there is no magic pill.
