loving yourself

Loving yourself isn’t always easy, but self-love and nourishing your mind, body, and soul are vital.

Fit Mother Sarah found a way to love herself, and every aspect of her life has improved!

Sarah is a wife, mother, and teacher who transformed her life with the Fit Mother Project.

She initially joined because her husband was on the Fit Father Project, but it didn’t take long for her to find her own inspiration, her “why.”

Sarah’s story stands out not just because she’s been able to lose weight and build strength but also because she’s completely and holistically integrated all aspects of her life.

She’s learned how to keep herself healthy, and now she’s a role model to her family and all the students she teaches.

Sarah has also learned so much about self-love and grace and how we can all positively impact the world.

She’s full of profound wisdom, and her story is one you’ve got to hear!

The Quest to Never Settle for Less

Sarah does yoga every day, and she has always been active, running and competing in marathons.

“I did track in eighth grade and ran cross country in ninth grade. After I had my son, I wanted to train for and run a half marathon. And that's where I started running.”

Still, Sarah often had problems maintaining a steady weight.

To combat it, she tried a bunch of different diets.

“Often, my weight fluctuation caused me to feel frumpy when I looked in the mirror. In my 20s, my metabolism slowed down, so I went through a phase where I tried Weight Watchers for a while. I also used the Noom app and dropped a ton of weight, but it wasn't in a healthy manner.”

She was looking for a sustainable diet plan, and she also wanted a good strength training program.

“I never started running to lose weight. It was always about strength for me. So, whenever I've tried different activities, it was more about strength and overcoming a challenge.”

With a history of cancer and abdominal surgery, Sarah had a weak core, and she wanted to turn that around.

“I'm 15 years cancer free. But I had abdominal surgery a few years back, and after that, I had two kids. And so my core was always weak, and also I felt tired all the time.”

When Sarah's mother passed, her stress grew, and her health began to fall by the wayside.

“The low point in my life was my mom's passing, and I was heavy with grief the following first year. To cope, I would down half a bag of potato chips and drink wine, and I got to my heaviest ever.”

See how Sarah learned to love herself and nourish her mind, body, and soul!

Loving Yourself

Sarah joined the Fit Mother Project program after getting inspired by her husband, who is a Fit Father Project member.

“I started it, and I love it. I find the Belladonna workout really fun, and so is Total Body Burn.”

Speaking about the nutrition plan, she says she loves the shakes, has leftovers from dinner as her lunch, and snacks on protein bars.

Sarah talks about what being a fit mom means for her and ties it beautifully with her upcoming second phase of life.

“Being a fit mom for me is about embracing and loving myself in this new phase of my life. And I would love to be stronger in the second half of my life than the first.”

With the Fit Mother Project, Sarah was able to turn her weak core into her harbor of real strength.

She proved this by taking the Planksgiving challenge.

“The Planksgiving challenge requires you to hold a three-minute plank over a month. I always had to bow out within five days because I would tweak something. But for the first time ever, I got to the end of it. I owe it all to the Fit Mother Project because I never dreamed I could overcome this.”

Sarah also shared great words of wisdom on how the all-pervasive nature of the internet and technology is taking away children's attention from healthy habits and is helplessly depriving their parents of intervention.

She talked about how she achieved physical, mental, and spiritual integration with the help of the program.

“The emotional thing that came out was the belief that I really can do anything. It's impacting every area of my life right now. My mantra has been to integrate my physical, emotional, and spiritual, and I achieved that.”

So what would Sarah say to someone looking to join the Fit Mother Project?

“Life is messy, and we're all going to go off track. Things will happen, but you have to work with it. You must embrace the mess and chaos and ask for help when you need it. Be gentle with yourself. Do not blame yourself for missing something or doing something wrong. Listen to your body and pull back when you need to. It's totally OK. Sometimes you fall off for longer, but you can still restart. You can always press the restart button. Forgiveness is the key. So, show yourself as much grace and forgiveness as you would show someone else.”

3 Key Takeaways From Sarah's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Sarah’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: Nutrition First

Nutrition (and hydration) is the most important component of fitness.

Remember, you can't out-exercise a bad diet!

Lesson 2: Make Conscious Choices

Your conscious decisions give you control over your life.

Our lives are not the product of our circumstances; they are made by the conscious decision we make every day.

Lesson 3: Model Good Habits

Molding healthy habits in your children will set them up for a lifetime of health and fitness.

The sooner you learn good habits, the more they become ingrained in your life.
