At the Fit Mother Project, we love non-scale victories — those little (and big) things like more energy, sleeping better, looser clothes, etc.

We often hear about them from our members who go beyond the numbers and find other ways to feel good about themselves.

Take Fit Mother Tracy, for example.

Tracy is a 50-year-old mother of three, who, like many of us, found her weight creeping up and her metabolism slowing as she got older.

She didn’t have a lot of weight to lose, she just wanted to get her body to a place where she felt good about it, so she loved the way she looked and felt.

With the help of the Fit Mother Project, she did just that!

What’s so special about Tracy’s journey is her non-scale victories (NSVs) that are a byproduct of focusing on the right things with her nutrition, sleep, hydration, and exercise.

Tracy has experienced so many NSVs, and she’s loving herself, inside and out!

Listen to Tracy's Story on the Fit Mother Project Podcast:

Not Feeling Like Herself

Tracy did not feel comfortable in her skin, and the onset of menopause triggered her anxiety and weight gain.

“It got to a point where I had some severe anxiety, and raising adult children was hard. I was going through menopause, and the weight kept coming on. I didn't feel good. I thought this was it and will have to live with it.”

Tracy was always active — she exercised most of her life and generally ate healthily.

“We as a family always try to eat a healthy diet. I've always exercised because that's my stress release.”

One of Tracy's friends introduced her to the Fit Mother Project, but it was already on her radar.

“I watched the Fit Mother Project's podcast and videos for almost a year before I had a friend tell me about it. She was starting the program, and I thought maybe I should do it too.”

Initially, she was skeptical because she didn't believe in diets and other fads.

Plus, she had tried several gym and spa memberships in the past, but nothing ever seemed to really make a difference.

Still, she decided to give the Fit Mother's Project a try.

“I loved the program's meal schedule options. It was very convenient for me and the least restrictive. And the exercises are not out of my realm of comfort. I'm not hurting my knees or back, and I'm good.”

Non-Scale Victories

While Tracy was enjoying the meals and the workouts, she also recalls moments when she felt discouraged.

“I started complaining because I didn't see much pound difference on the scale. So I started weighing myself every day and was discouraged. I told the friend who suggested this program that I only lost maybe four to five pounds in a month. She told me it's not about the scale. So, after a month, I compared my before and after pictures and was floored! My before pictures had some fat around my waist and stomach, but my after pictures didn't have any of that. I lost four or five pounds; my goal was 12. I realized that this program works.”

Now, Tracy doesn't let the scale affect her mood or attitude.

She knows that weight loss is only a by-product of a successful health and fitness journey.

“I want to focus on eating healthy and exercising. That's my main goal. I want to be healthier and live a full life over 50. I want to travel and do things with my kids and grandkids. When you fall in love with a process rather than the product or the result, that's where your happiness is. And I have loved this whole process.”

Being a Fit Mother has changed Tracy's life for the better, in so many ways.

“I feel mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy. It's huge. It builds confidence and connection with your body, which I think is spiritual. I can do so much now and take control of the hard things. They don't control me. I look at food differently now. I believe that food is there to help me and that I'm not bound to it. I don't use it as a crutch. It's there to fuel me to do everything I want and be there for myself and others. I think the Fit Mother goes further than just weight loss and physical appearance. That is where happiness and joy in life come. So I'm grateful for this.”

So what would Tracy say to someone looking to join the Fit Mother Project?

“Have compassion for yourself as a parent, your journey, your fitness, and your weight loss. Have compassion for your body, even if it's not perfect or if you're not a perfect parent. Compassion is extremely important. We grow and change throughout our lives. We're not stagnant.”

3 Key Takeaways From Tracy's Journey

To summarize, here are three key lessons you can learn from Tracy’s successful health and fitness journey:

Lesson 1: Don't Settle

Tracy turned her life around by not settling — she continuously strived for the better.

New possibilities open up when you don't settle for what you have and aim for higher goals.

So keep yourself open-minded to new experiences, and you will be surprised by what you can achieve.

Lesson 2: The Scale Doesn't Define You

The number on your scale can play with your head.

People measure their success against the scale and get discouraged.

Try to understand that scale is just data.

It does not speak about your growth in the journey.

Tracy reformed herself when she gave up her obsession with the scale.

Lesson 3: Even as a Mother, You Must Take Care of Yourself

Even as a mother, you can't take on your children's problems as your own.

You can't take on their health issues as your own.

You can help them, but to do that, you have to be the best self that you can be to be there for them.

It's not selfish to care for yourself.

Don't feel guilty for indulging in self-care once in a while.
